| Effect of yogasana practice on systolic time intervels

January-March 1990, 9(3):116-124Therapeutic values of yoga practices are well documented in the ancient Indian literature. In this study an attempt has been made to see the effect of Yogasana practice on cardiac functions by measuring systolic time intervals (STI). The asanas studied are Sirsasana, Sarvangasana, Halasana, Paschimottanasana and Bhujangasana. Five healthy Yogasana practitioners who where practicing regularly for more than a year were the subjects. The result of the study was statistically analyzed and presented systematically here. |

| Image of some existing medical systems among Indian rural communites

January-March 1990, 9(3):110-115Though a number of medical systems grossly prevails in Indian rural communities, this empirical Socio-medical study makes an attempt to examine the comparative suitability of various systems among them. The parameters adopted in evaluating the suitability of different systems were (a) peoples' perception of the capacity of these individual systems to cure the illness (b) the economic dimension of the system and (c) the cultural compatibility of the system. Among other findings the study reveals that the Ayurvedic system scores highest in the scale of suitability. |
