| Constitutional study of cancer patients - Its prognostic and therapeutic scope

October-December 1987, 7(2):110-11528 patients undergoing treatment for Cancer and 57 normal adults are studied for their Prakriti (constitution and temperature) to find out whether there is any difference in the prakriti pattern of Cancer patients when compared with that of normal volunteers. Pitta dominance is found in the prakriti pattern of Cancer patients followed by Kapha dominance. The prognostic therapeutic utility and scope of the knowledge of prakriti patterns are also discussed in this paper. |

| Energy Medicine

October-December 1987, 7(2):85-89Energy medicine is the most comprehensive concept introduced in medical diagnostics and therapy to account for a whole range of phenomena and methods available to help an individual proceed from sickness to health. The modern medical theories do not account for, much less accept many traditional therapies due to deep suspicion that the older methods are not scientific. However, the Holistic Health groups around the world have now created an environment for therapies which work at subtle energy inputs, at the cellular and molecular levels. Moreover, there are other - as yet unexplainable - energy fields which are being utilized to rebalance the Body-Mind-Spirit triad in an individual. A brief introduction is provided to these subtle energy inputs and methods of manipulation of the vital forces in the sick. Many ancient health technologies such as Yoga, Ayurveda, Acupuncture etc have proposed and work under different energy movement in the body. These are all Energy Medical Systems whose efficacy is beyond any doubt in therapeutics. Thus, Energy Medicine forms a broad based system and its introduction is important to widen the scope and content of medical therapy so that optimal treatment of the sick is possible. |

| Ephedra, the oldest medicinal plant with the history of an uninterrupted use

The use of Soma as the first drink of a newly born child is mentioned in Rigveda. The author identifies the Soma of Rigveda with the Ephedra and established its use in ancient Rome and also highlights here its continuity among Zorostrains. |

| A new receipt for liver injury

October-December 1987, 7(2):99-103A new receipe consisting of Phyllanthus fraternus Webster, Eclipta alba and curcumin was prepared. The efficacy of this preparation was tested in carbontetrachloride (CCl 4 ) induced fatty liver model in rats. This preparation was able to normalize the level of lipids accumulating in liver due to CCl 4 injury and it was also able to bring down elevated levels of serum bilirubin. Further, the decreased levels of serum triglycerides, pre B-lipoproteins and cholesterol in CCl 4 liver injured rats was raised after treatment with new preparation. Further, the decreased level of liver glycogen was also normalized. From these results, it can be inferred that the new receipe is able to offer protection against the liver injury caused by CCl 4 injection. |
