Effect of immue-21 on murine peritoneal macrophages and splenic lymphocytes |
p. 250 |
S Chatterjee, SN Das Effect of Immue-21 (an herbal immunomodulator) was studied on different immunopharmacological models. Immue-21 significantly enhanced the mobilization and functional capacity of peritoneal macrophages of experimental animals. An elevated blastofenic response of splenic lymphocytes was observed in Immue-21 treated mice. The potential to modulate the immunity in general by Immue-21 assumes considerable therapeutic and/or prophylactic significance. |

Plant research in a new perspective |
p. 254 |
GG Gangadharan In India and elsewhere research on medicinal plant is purely oriented towards developing potential drugs from plants. The cue for its therapeutic activity was taken from hundreds of folklores, Ayurveda, Siddha, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) etc., No effort has been made so far in the main stream for developing a protocol for plant research for medicinal purposes. China which embraced an integrated approach to revitalize the TCM has also been following the direction initiated by the West. India as well as China, should develop an independent methodology. The question is whether the research is to help develop new drugs for modern medicine or to help to enrich the indigenous health cultures. |

Investigation on fagonia cretica -Its effect on hormonal profile and immunomodulation in rats |
p. 259 |
V Abirami, RL Khosa, SK Dhar, M Sahai The effect of alcoholic extracts of the aerial parts of fagonia cretica on estrous cycle and implantation in female albino rats was studied, It induced random omission of heat phase in eh estrous cycle and exhibited 100% anti implantation activity without exhibiting any toxic manifestation, However it was found to have some strong androgenic antiprogestational activity, and immunostimulating property. |

Hypoglycamic activity of extracts fo Ficus glomerata |
p. 301 |
K Balaji, V Venkiteshwarlu, VM Reddy The petroleum ether (60-80o), chloroform methanol extracts of leaves and root bark of ficus glomerata (Moraceae) were prepared by successive solvent extraction followed by vacuum evaporation and the marc left after successive solvent extraction was extracts with boiling water to get aqueous extracts, all the extracts were subjected to qualitative chemical tests to find out phytoconstituents present in them. All the extracts were screened for their hypoglycaemic activity in normal and fasted rabbits fed with glucose, chloroform and methanolic extracts of leaves and chloroform extract of root bark of R. glomerata exhibited significant hypoglycaemic activity. |
