This paper discuses the social research and health care planning systems of South Asia. Also, the Author attempts to indicate the scope and nature of this work done in this territory to identity elements relevant to health care planning.

'Arogyappacha' (Trichopus zeylanicus) found endemic to Agastyar hills of Kerala is used by the local 'kani' tribe as a health food for getting instant stamina, ever green health and vitality. The tonic effect of this plants is comparable to that of the famous health food/drug 'Ginseng'. A critical survey of the Ayurveda classics, suggests that the 'Arogyappacha' may be the divine 'Varahi'described by sushruta. Chemical and Pharmacological evaluation of the plant have been initiated.

"777 oil" a coded drug of Siddha system of medicine was prepared and analyzed in the paper. The drug showed 3.62, 13.57 and 266.9 Iodine value, acid number and saponification number respectively. The bark which was one of the ingredients in the drug was possessing 0.63% nitrogen in the acid soluble portion. The bark also exhibited proeolytic activity and the optimum pH was 4.

A research trial was conducted at in-patient level to compare the efficacy of Sahacharadi taila with that of Nirgundi taila in Saisaveeyavata (Poliomyelitis). Forty cases were selected for the trial and grouped into two at random and treated with Sahacharadi taila and Nirgundi taila respectively. Results in both groups were highly encouraging and statistically significant. The study also revealed that 25% of patients had undergone Polio vaccination and it was not helpful to prevent the disease.

This paper deals with the various aspects of commonly used flavouring agents for the preparation of medicaments.

Ten healthy controls, 9 Rheumatoid Arthritis patients and 5 cancer patients were studied for T and B cells in peripheral circulation. T cell count in cancer patients showed a slight enhancement after receiving Ayurvedic Treatment; but the B cell count remained the same. In Rheumatoid Arthritis patients no significant change was noticed either in T cell or cell count.

This paper depicts e paraphernalia of an alchemist who believed in imitating creation and generating a soul thereby. The magic wands of creation are a compass and a triangular carpenter's square. They can produce the dual natured soul Ruh or Spirit symbolized as Cock and Nafs of "the soul" as snake: The real creative energy by nature is ultrasonic energy, characterizing the word of command of the creator. Ultrasonic energy can be produced by fiddle which is depicted also as such a producer. Thus all the elements necessary to imitate creation have been depicted here.

Aqueous extract of Moringa oleifera Lam. (root) has been studies on pre and post-implementation stages of the uterus of rats so as to elucidate its antifertility mode of action. Results on the biochemical estimation in the uterus of control pregnant rats at different stages of pregnancy revealed a successive increase in the total proteins, glycogen content and the activity or acid and alkaline phosphatase from day 2 to 5 post-coitum. When aqueous extract of M. oleifera Lam. Was administered, there was a significant reduction in all these biochemical constituents when compared to their respective control groups. The role of these biochemical transformations has been discussed in relation to anti-implantation action of the extract.

In the present study an attempt has been made to measure the changes occurring in levels of some neuro-humors, such as catecholamines, serotonin (5-HT) and acetylcholine in blood and urine, after distension of urinary bladder caused by suppression of urine urge. Distenision of urinary bladder was produced by withholding the urine rabbits and observations were made at hourly intervals. Canges observed in the levels of these neurohumors reveal that withholding of urine is a stressful situation. Inference has been drawn that suppression of urine urge (vegavidharana) acts as a stressful situation and thus the study validates the role of vegavidharan in aetiology of diseases.

The paper presents the ethnomedicinal use of 35 plants by the tribals of Koraput district to cure 25 diseases they suffer from. Apart from this, a note on the vegetation pattern, tribal population and geography of the district is given here.

Asavas and arishtas are produced by fermentation in an earthen pot according to textual procedure. The size and shape of the pot and the quantity of the drug. That can be taken in a pot for fermentation is not mentioned in the literature. The present Study was taken up to determine the quantity of drug that can be fermented in an earthen Pot to obtain best results. Dasamularishta was fermented in different volumes in earthen pots of identical size, shape and capacity, as well as in stainless steel vessel and porcelain jar. The drug filled up to 3/4 ^th  of the volume of the earthen pot had shown better results than the earthen pots containing various volumes of drug. The stainless steel container and porcelain jar also showed comparable results to the earthen pot fermented drug. Thin layer chromatography of different preparation showed five spots.
