Galen's recognition of three souls and their origin |

S Mahdihassan Galen's three souls incorporate previously existing ideas of soul. Soul is matter - cum - energy. As matter it is airlike, the finest by nature and as movement, like sound, the form of energy most subtle of its kind. Creator is depicted with Creation as the Cosmic egg and snake as Cosmic soul and the syllable Om, as the word incorporating creative energy. Om as humming sound is symbolized by Bees which produce such sound. |

Anti - diabetic activity of the seed kernel of syzygium cumini linn |

R Bhaskaran Nair, G Santhakumari Syzygium cumini seed kernel (aqueous suspension) was screened for its antibiadetic activity at the dose levels of 1g., 2g., 4g and 6 g/kg body weight. 4g / kg dose level was found to exhibit maximum hypoglycaemic effect (42.64%) in rabbits, 3hr. after medication. Like Tolbutamide the drug may also be promoting endogenous release of insulin. An extra pancreatic site of action of the drug cannot be ruled out, since it produced a significant decrease in the blood sugar level (17.04%) in alloxan diabetic rats. |

J Singh, VK Lan, VP Trivedi Katphala or Kaiphala, botanically equated with plant Myrica esculenta Buch. - Ham., is an important bark drug of Indian systems of medicine. It is one of the plant species, which are under imminent danger of extinction from U. P. Himalayas. Since, no pharmacognostic study on this drug is on record, the present investigations has been undertaken. In this article, macroscopic and microscopic characters of the bark as such, including diagnostic characters of the drug in powder form have been presented. |

Chansauria, KN Udupa In cases of mental depression, the plasma serotonin, melatonin and glutamate levels are increased along with the lowering of urinary - 5 - hydroxyindole acetic acid, plasma monoamine oxidase and cortisol levels following three and six months Practice of Kundalini Yoga. The pulse rate and blood pressure in these patients are also lowered after Kundalini Yoga practice. Thus, the practice of Kundalini Yoga helps to maintain a perfect homeostasis by bringing an equilibrium between the sympathetic and parasympathetic activities and it can be used as a non - medical measure in treating patients with mental depression. |
