Syzygium cumini seed kernel (aqueous suspension) was screened for its antibiadetic activity at the dose levels of 1g., 2g., 4g and 6 g/kg body weight. 4g / kg dose level was found to exhibit maximum hypoglycaemic effect (42.64%) in rabbits, 3hr. after medication. Like Tolbutamide the drug may also be promoting endogenous release of insulin. An extra pancreatic site of action of the drug cannot be ruled out, since it produced a significant decrease in the blood sugar level (17.04%) in alloxan diabetic rats.

Katphala or Kaiphala, botanically equated with plant Myrica esculenta Buch. - Ham., is an important bark drug of Indian systems of medicine. It is one of the plant species, which are under imminent danger of extinction from U. P. Himalayas. Since, no pharmacognostic study on this drug is on record, the present investigations has been undertaken. In this article, macroscopic and microscopic characters of the bark as such, including diagnostic characters of the drug in powder form have been presented.

An ayurvedic oil preparation containing flowers of ixora coccinea and cortus sativum was subjected to an animal experimentation to find out how far it is efficient in preventing the development of Dalton's lymphoma as solid tumour. The oil was applied after injecting the cells and we found it could retard the development of tumour and arrest further development of already formed tumour.

This paper deals with the wild medicinal plants used by rural population of south-western part of Kolhapur district, Maharashtra State. The authors gathered data on 34 species of locally available wild plants used in curing common human ailments. The plants are arranged according to the type of ailment. Vernacular name of each species followed by its botanical name, relevant plant family and known use of the plant in local medicine are given.
