(Annonaceae) were monitored by estimating the serum transaminases (SGOT and SGPT), serum alkaline phosphatase (SALP), liver and brain lipid peroxidation (LOP) and their total protein content. Both drugs at a dose of 100 μg/kg significantly prevented the increase in serum transaminases, SALP, liver and brain LOP and decrease in liver and brain total protein content following carbontetrachloride (CCl) induced hepatoxicity in albino rats. |

body, has been essentially covered in Ayurveda under thirteen types of Agnis and their functions at different levels, which are often compared with the enzymes and biochemical which take part in biological and / or biophysical transformations and reactions. When these Agnis, at different levels, get disordered they lead to the production of certain undesired elements or byproducts in the system, which are called as 'Ama' in ayurveda and are considered as very important morbid factor responsible for causation of a variety of diseases and playing key role in genesis of most of the diseases.
The present article attempts to correlate the most recent concept of today's medicine i.e., Free Radical concept with that of the concept of Agni and Ama, described in Ayurveda and thereby opens newer vistas of search for remedies from Ayurvedic research, which may be helpful in the prevention and care of Free Radical Mediated Diseases. |

Antifertility efficacy of Neem bark(Azadirachta indica A.juss.) in male rats |

Ashok Purohit Subcutaneous treatment of 50% EtOH extract of neem bark (Azadirachta indica A. juss) to male rats at the dose of 10 mg for 30 days caused arrest of spermatogenesis. The diameter of serminiferous tubule, Leydig cell nucleus and epithelial heights of epididymides were significantly reduced (p≤0.001). Sperm motility and density were significantly reduced. Reduced testicular and accessory organ protein, sialic acid and vesicular fructose content manifested arrest of spermatogenesis and depletion of androgen level. |

BN Sinha, D Sasmal, SP Basu Bryonia epigaea (cucurbitaceae) has been evaluated on various inflammatory
models in rats in our laboratory. Ana anti-inflammatory drug(s) irrespective of its potency may not be devoid of undesirable effects on biochemical and hematological parameters. Alcoholic extract of Bryonia epigaaea (BE-Extract) at the dose of 50 mg/kg body weight, was administered to rats. Hepatotxic and nephrotoxic effects of BE-Extract were studies by measuring cholesterol, urea, uric acid, SGOT, SGPT and glucose levels in blood. Effects of BE-Extract on RBC count, WBC count, platelet count, hemoglobin content, clotting and bleeding time were also studied. |

using franz- Diffusion cell and microbial one inhibition diameter as drug release monitoring parameters. Out of the three ointment base prepared, (Hydrocarbon Base (HB), surfactant Base (SB), Surfactant Base + (Penetration Enhancer (10 % DMSO) SBPE), we observed that SBPE possesses maximum drug release capacity, as indicated by simultaneous high performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC) and microbial one inhibition monitoring studies. Clinical observations
showed at SBPE was effective in cases like infected wounds, scratches and abrasions, infected scabies, pyoderma and furunculosis. The overall cure rate s 79.3% with the antimicro-bial ointmtmtent. |
